As did his duplicate two years earlier, he takes the
name "Mark Zimmerman," with Mark standing for "Mark I" and
"Zimmerman" for the obvious connection to his pseudofather and
EMH creator Dr. Lewis Zimmerman.
As the first EMH to complete the remedial program, Mark earns
himself the rank of Lieutenant Commander, and a position as
Executive Medical officer on Jupiter Station in charge of
third shift. He lives with Lewis and Haley (See "Life
Line"), and settles into a routine as a medical professional.
The USS Black Star
In 2380, Starfleet Intelligence calls on him to join an unusual
salvage operation aboard the USS Black Star.
Sim Notes - the Black Star
I made a deal with a DQEF player: you get us attacked so we have
something to do in Sickbay, and I would join his simulation. So
this story sort of came out of a devil's deal. I recruited Kaj
for him as well.
I had no idea what I was getting into here. First, because I had
no idea a "squad" meant essentially we'd be Marines, and there's
no such thing as Marines in Starfleet canon. Then, the founder
had no idea what the ship looked like from the inside, and at
one point even considered changing the ship class (yes, while we
were already aboard). It was a very poorly planned. Possessing
little in the way of attention span, the younger participants
left almost immediately.
Then, the ultimate occurred. Overnight, the soccer bug took him
and he dumped ownership into my lap and left his own simulation.
Here was a handful of us left and I had absolutely no clue what
direction to take. Having been dangled an offer from the founder
of the Endeavour simulation, I took his storyline (the whole
thing smelled of a preexisting TNG episode) in exchange for
joining the Endie as their EMH (see Merlin). I'm still wondering whether he
really meant "verteron" instead of "vetrion"...
So all in all, there was devillish dealing all around this one.
We struggled to reach the end, autoing missing characters along
the way (to "auto" means to write someone else's role). We
perhaps did something unprecedented in the history of Trek
Simming: we finished. Better that than everyone leaving the story
in limbo IMHO. The experience left me with a bad view of working
with people too immature to comprehend the concept of commitment.
I've since vowed never again to work under anyone young enough to
be my son or daughter.
Speaking of autoing, I handled an obvious offender in a unique
way. Think you can catch it in the logs?

The USS Aventura
In 2381, the Doctor once again leaves the sedentary lifestyle of
station existence, when he is recruited as First Officer and CMO
for the USS Aventura. The Captain is none other than Dekket Kaj,
formerly of the ill-fated Delta Quadrant Exploration Fleet
(for the DQEF story, please see Mark
Zimmerman I).
The Intrepid Class ship shuttles a goodwill entertainment troup
from venue to venue. The performers consist of species contrary
to the Federation, while at the same time outcasts on their
homeworlds. The show MC and their manager is a shrewd Ferengi
possessed of uncharacteristic scuples. Unfortunately, Kaj is literally knocked out of commission by an
adversary from his past, making way for Captain Saul Golden, a green commanding officer amidst hand-picked
specialists.
Sim Notes - the Aventura
This simulation has evolved slowly as just the right participants are found. The plotline does not follow
the typical Trek sim, so it takes a certain type of writer to make this click. Among the current lineup, the
Chief Engineer is written by a real life engineer, and a real scientist portrays the ship's Chief of
Science. Lt. Commander Fiamma Wilde is actually the same writer for Kes on Simulated ST Voyager, and
portrayed Merlin's wouldbe girlfriend Marisha Kudet on the Endeavour back in 2001. Are there any other
familiar faces? Good question!
We're currently looking for OPs and a new Tactical/Security chief. Please contact me via E-mail if you
believe you've got what it takes to be in this type of sim after having read enough of it. Aventura's still
in its early stages.
